I tackled the problem first-hand across industries:

As a global HR leader in management consulting, scale-ups, and tech, I’ve helped organizations cut through unproductive work dynamics to unlock people and organizational potential.

To research workplace challenges, I pursued an academic journey in anthropology alongside my corporate career, coining 'pretentious work' to describe behaviors masking meaningless tasks.

Through my venture, The Inner Business School, I’ve helped hundreds of professionals redesign their corporate roles into work that matters. 

Most people don’t want to waste their time on nonsense work —but cultural norms and organizational structures often limit intentional action.

 

As an anthropologist, I call this a lack of agency. I help people and organizations build the capacity to make deliberate decisions, take autonomous action, and own outcomes to drive lasting impact despite structural constraints.
